Chances are, you haven’t yet had the chance to play Minecraft Earth. But you want to experience what it’s like to build Minecraft structures in real life. So what do you do?
Enter WrldCraft. A game that was announced before Minecraft Earth was, last year in October. Right now it’s available to download for free on IOS and Android devices.
The developers describe WrldCraft as “the first, huge, massively multiplayer, full scale augmented reality, geolocated, persistent, voxel based, cloud based, sandbox and exploration game made for iOS and Android mobile phones.“
Sounds complicated? It isn’t. It is something between Minecraft, Pokemon Go and Second Life with all the power of an open-world MMORPG and the freedom of a sandbox game.
Looks cool? Yeah!
The major similarity between the two games is the ability for the structures you make to remain in the world for others to find and improve upon.
“Craft full-scale structures around the world, other people can visit them and help you building bigger castles if you want. All the things you build in the real world will remain forever in that place and under your control.“
But apart from that, and it’s blocky style, the games are actually quite different. Just compare the trailers of the two and the differences should be quite apparent.
The goal of WrldCraft isn’t for players to build their mansions in their gardens. It’s for the community to come together and to build something truly great.
Minecraft Earth, however, doesn’t allow this, with restrictions to building size and the element of having to collect all the blocks you place.
In a sense, WrldCraft could be seen as the creative mode to Minecraft Earth. Something which hasn’t yet been implemented, and probably won’t be judging by some developer comments.
One unique feature of WrldCraft is mining. Somehow the developers have made it so you can travel underground in AR, and I’ve got to admit, it looks amazing. Just check out the video below.
Maybe one day this can be implemented into Minecraft Earth too, allowing players to travel up and down stairs.
So if you want to try out WrldCraft, head over to the Google Play Store or the App Store and search for it. It’s also important that you have the latest version of ARKit / ARCore installed on your device, otherwise, you might run into some issues.
What do you think of WrldCraft? Will you be trying it out, or are you going to give it a miss? Let me know your thoughts in the comments below!
